"Low Carb Beer," by Earl J. Franklin

Everyone has heard of the latest low-carbohydrate diet. A few years ago, I briefly adhered to one of these low-carb diets. Not wanting to give up one of my more enjoyable beverages, I searched for a low-carb beer. I found that Miller Lite contains 3.2 grams of carbohydrates while Budweiser, Michelob Light, and other brands contain over 9 grams; so I switched to Miller Lite and have been drinking it since.

With much fanfare, Michelob (Anheuser-Busch Inc.) introduced Michelob Ultra, a beer with only 2.7 grams of carbs. The flourish of this introduction led beer drinkers to believe that Michelob had just invented low carb beer. But we now know that Miller had been selling low-carb beer for a long time.

This whole beer marketing episode reminds me of one of Crystal’s competitor’s recent proclamations that their product can now record scripts. (The operator just puts the control system into “script record mode,” commands devices, and voila! a script has been written with the captured commands.) Wow! What a neat idea.

Of course, Crystal’s products have had this feature since 1990, but our competitor’s boasting would have one believe that it’s all new.

Control systems are what we focus our energy on. We frequently don’t even mention many of the features in CrystalVision NMC because we assume that any worthwhile control system includes them.

Our competitors have developed a habit of chasing Crystal’s lead in technology, function, and design. Look out! They’re catching up; they’re only 12 years behind us on this one.
