The following are some of the more common questions that customers have asked our support department. These questions cover potential problems that you may have with CrystalVision. To perform routine tasks, consult your online help or user guide.
Communication If the user interface crashes, is CrystalVision still polling my equipment? One or more nodes drops communications with other nodes and appears blue (unavailable). One of my devices is giving false alarms. A device is not communicating. When I unplug a device, CrystalVision still displays values for frequency, signal strength, etc. No devices are talking to the node that they're hooked to.
Crystal ACU My ACU moves in the opposite direction than I commanded it. My Crystal ACU is showing the wrong parameters on the display. I can't run or jog polarization for my Crystal ACU. My Crystal ACU will not move a particular direction and shows an alarm.
Scripts When I record a script, are my commands going to my equipment? I made a mistake while recording a long script. What do I do? When I delete a script, it keeps reappearing. My scheduled event is behaving strangely.

User Interface
Computers My hard disk is making weird noises and/or the system freezes intermittently. A node died and/or won't reboot. How do I copy a file to diskette? What is the proper way to reboot all (nonredundancy) nodes? What is the proper way to reboot redundancy nodes?
Other My area code changed. Should I do anything for my CrystalVision system?
If the user interface crashes, is CrystalVision still polling my equipment? Yes. Not only is it still polling, but all of its functions are still working, including protection switching and scheduling. One or more nodes drops communications with other nodes and appears blue (unavailable). If all of the individual computers are still running and nothing has been recently added to your system, the culprit may be your networking hardware. Among the software items we would check would be: IP address of the node, is Infleet running? and pinging it. One of my devices is giving false alarms. The device may be in test mode. More than one piece of equipment is losing communications from time to time. Communications get re-established upon re-boot. If the equipment is hooked up to the same serial port manager, it's possible that the serial port manager is bad. A device is not communicating. First, see if you can control it locally from its own panel. If not, check to see that it has power (plugged in). Is it turned on? Is the breaker for its outlet on? If it works from the front panel, check the communication line all the way to the serial port to which it is hooked up (is a connector loose? are any of these parts aging)? Is the device in maintenance mode? Verify, if you can, that the device itself is functioning properly. Two devices may be using the same port. Check the Configuration > Device Configuration window. When I unplug a device, CrystalVision still displays values for frequency, signal strength, etc. The last known value continues to be displayed because there is no other more appropriate value that CrystalVision can display. When the device status changes to "Unavailable," the user should ignore all values displayed for that device. No devices are talking to the node that they're hooked to. Try rebooting. Check the serial port manager. My ACU moves in the opposite direction than I commanded it. This is probably a wiring problem. Some customers have experienced this problem when an electrician inadvertently swapped phases. If so, get it fixed quickly! You can damage the antenna mechanics. My Crystal ACU is showing the wrong parameters on the display. Try running to Z. I can't run or jog polarization for my Crystal ACU. You may not have the correct limits set in site_cfg and/or the parms file. My Crystal ACU will not move a particular direction and shows an alarm. Try running to Z. If this doesn't work, check your pins in the antenna controller. When I record a script, are my commands going to my equipment? No. While in record mode (shown by the Record Script dialog box that "floats"), all commands are saved in the script file and not sent to the devices. I made a mistake while recording a long script. What do I do? Finish creating the script. When you have finished, you can edit the file itself to correct your error using the Automation Tools > Edit/Run Scripts window. When I delete a script, it keeps reappearing. The file needs to be deleted on all nodes. (When a periodic file resynchronization occurs, the file will be propagated from any node on which the file still resides.) From each note, use the Automation Tools > Edit/Run Scripts window, select the script, and select Delete. My scheduled event is behaving strangely. Make sure each node's time is synchronized with the correct time. You may need to execute a set_time script regularly to make sure the times remain synchronized. If a CrystalVision node is connected to your house clock, make sure the house clock is correct. Use a set_time script to synchronize the time with all other nodes. If all nodes are incorrect, it may be your house clock (if CrystalVision is hooked up to it) is in error. Does the label on the button reflect the current state or does it reflect what will happen if I click on it? The label on the button reflects the current state (i.e. horizontal means the receiver is currently decoding the horizontal input). In version 7.0 (LT and EE) buttons are replaced with radio buttons which control both states as well as display the currently active state. My hard disk is making weird noises and/or the system freezes intermittently. It could be that some sectors on your hard disk are bad or that some files are cross-linked. These things can be checked using QNX line commands. Call us if you need help with this. A node died and/or won't
reboot. How do I copy a file to diskette? Press the Windows key or ALT-Enter to obtain a Korn shell window. Use the command: cp filename /dos/a. For more help type: use cp. What is the proper way to reboot all (nonredundancy) nodes? Reboot remote nodes first. Only QNX nodes can be rebooted remotely. Reboot the computer node from which you are working last. If a remote node is a gateway, reboot nodes attached to the gateway before rebooting the gateway. What is the proper way to reboot redundancy nodes? 1. Power off backup computer (Ctrl-Alt-Shift-DEL on number pad, wait 10 seconds, then power off) 2 Select primary on KVM (keyboard, video, and mouse) switch 3 Power off primary computer (Ctrl-Alt-Shift-DEL on number pad, wait 10 seconds, then power off). Power on after 30 seconds. 4. After primary has rebooted and the UI has loaded with status indicators, switch KVM switch to backup. 5. Power on backup computer. When the CrystalVision windows have loaded, switch KVM back to primary. You need to compress the logging data until you have a chance to archive it or remove it. To archive the data onto multiple floppy disks, call us and we can send you the steps. You may have network issues, such as one or more devices generating large amounts of network traffic. My area code changed. Should I do anything for my CrystalVision system? If you have alarm notification via beeper or cell phone, call us so that we can help you change the area code. Also, it will help us out to have the new number in case we need to dial up to make changes to your system. |
